How to Hide Videos on iPhone

To hide a video on iPhone, open it in Photos, tap the More button (three dots), then Hide. The video moves to the Hidden album, which is locked with Face ID, and disappears from your library, albums and Memories. It works exactly like hiding photos. Here are the steps, how to keep the Hidden album out of sight, and when you need more than that.

Hide a video

  1. Open Photos and open the video.
  2. Tap the More button (three dots).
  3. Tap Hide, then confirm.

To hide several videos at once: in your library, tap Select, tap the videos, then tap the More button and Hide. To find videos quickly, scroll down to Media Types and tap Videos.

Find your hidden videos

Hidden videos go to the Hidden album:

  1. In Photos, scroll down to Utilities.
  2. Tap Hidden and unlock it with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode.

To bring a video back, open it there, tap More, then Unhide. Our guide on where the Hidden album is has more detail.

Keep the Hidden album out of sight

The Hidden album is locked, but anyone can see that it’s there. To hide the album itself:

  1. Open Settings, then Apps, then Photos.
  2. Turn off Show Hidden Album.

While you’re there, check that Use Face ID is on, so the album always needs your face, fingerprint or passcode.

What the Hidden album doesn’t do

Hiding is about keeping videos out of view, not locking them away:

  • It uses your iPhone passcode. Anyone who knows it can open the Hidden album.
  • It syncs. With iCloud Photos on, hidden videos appear in the Hidden album on your iPad and Mac too, and they’re stored in iCloud like the rest of your library. See are hidden photos saved to iCloud.
  • There’s only one. You can’t keep separate hidden collections.

For a video you’d never want a partner, friend or anyone who knows your passcode to stumble on, that’s not enough.

Lock videos behind a separate passcode

A vault app keeps videos behind a lock that’s separate from your iPhone passcode. Look for one that encrypts the videos instead of just hiding them, and that removes them from Photos, so they don’t linger in your library or iCloud.

Easy Vault encrypts videos on your iPhone or iPad behind its own pattern or password and can delete the originals from Photos once they’re in. You can also record straight into it with its private camera, so the video never touches your camera roll, and a decoy passcode can open a harmless vault if someone insists. See how to keep private photos and videos private.

Don’t forget Recently Deleted

If you delete a video from Photos after moving it somewhere safer, it stays in Recently Deleted for up to 30 days. Open Photos, go to Utilities, then Recently Deleted, and delete it there too. See how to permanently delete photos on iPhone for the copies in shared albums, chats and backups.

Where do hidden videos go on iPhone?

To the Hidden album. Open Photos, scroll down to Utilities and tap Hidden. It's locked with Face ID, Touch ID or your passcode by default.

Can I hide the Hidden album too?

Yes. Go to Settings, Apps, Photos and turn off Show Hidden Album. The album disappears from Photos until you turn the setting back on.
