HEIC to PNG converter
Turn iPhone photos into PNG files that open anywhere. Free, no limits, and your photos never leave your device.
100% on your device. Your photos never leave it.
HEIC decoding uses the open-source libheif (LGPL), loaded into your browser.
What is a HEIC file?
HEIC is the format iPhones have used for photos since iOS 11. It keeps photos looking the same at about half the size of a JPG, which saves space on your phone. The catch is that many places still can't open it: some Windows PCs, websites, upload forms, printing services and older apps.
Converting to PNG or JPG gives you a copy that works everywhere. Your original HEIC photo isn't changed.
PNG or JPG?
| PNG | JPG | |
|---|---|---|
| Quality | Lossless, an exact copy | Very high, tiny losses you won't see |
| File size of a photo | Large, often 10–25 MB | Small, usually 2–5 MB |
| Best for | Editing, design work, sites that ask for PNG | Sharing, uploading, printing, everyday use |
Not sure? Choose JPG. You can switch with the buttons above, or use the HEIC to JPG converter.
Your photos stay on your device
Many online converters upload your photos to their servers. This one converts them inside your browser and saves the results straight back to your device. You can even turn off Wi-Fi after the page loads and it still works.
By default, converted copies also leave out the location and other hidden details your iPhone saves in each photo. To check what a photo reveals first, use the photo location finder.
Stop your iPhone saving HEIC
- Save new photos as JPG: open Settings → Camera → Formats and choose Most Compatible. Photos take up more space.
- Convert automatically when copying to a computer: in Settings → Apps → Photos, under Transfer to Mac or PC, choose Automatic.
- On a Mac: open the photo in Preview, choose File → Export and pick PNG or JPEG.
- On Windows: the free HEIF Image Extensions from the Microsoft Store lets the Photos app open HEIC; some PCs also need HEVC Video Extensions.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert HEIC to PNG?
Choose or drop your HEIC photos above with PNG selected. Each one is converted in your browser and you can download them one by one or all at once as a ZIP. On a Mac you can also open the photo in Preview, choose File, Export, and pick PNG.
Is this HEIC converter free and safe?
Yes. It's free with no limits or sign-up, and your photos are converted on your own device. They're never uploaded, because this site has no server that could receive them.
Should I convert HEIC to PNG or JPG?
JPG for almost everything: it opens everywhere and stays a reasonable size. Choose PNG when you need a lossless copy for editing, or a site specifically asks for PNG. PNG files of photos are much larger, often five to ten times the size of the HEIC.
Does converting keep the date and location?
Only if you want it to. By default the converted copies leave out the location, date, phone model and other hidden details. Untick Remove location and other hidden details to keep them.
What about Live Photos?
A Live Photo is a HEIC still plus a short video saved separately. Converting gives you the still image as a PNG; the motion part is not included.
